Why
Neuro - Story - Collective
NEURO refers to  all neurodiversity (we all have different brains), neurology (when our minds trip us up), neuroscience (how we're wired), neuroplaticity (our ability to always adapt and change) and not least neurodivergent (neurospicy minds).
STORY is for our individual and unique stories, narratives, beliefs, hopes, dreams, wishes, norms, traditions, attitudes, internalised ableism/stigma/shame, stories that create our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and for the stories that unite and divide us.
Finally, COLLECTIVE means shared learning, a community of likeminded, what makes us connect as a whole and group, and the mutual and unifying aspects of our lived experiences as neurodivergent people, living in a neurotypical world.
NeuroStory Collective is a place of shared and collected stories by and for (mainly) autistic and autistic+ (plus, referring to autistic people with co-occuring neurodivergencies like ADHD, dyslexia, etc).

Note, that there's no 'the' in this name, as NeuroStory Collective isn't the ultimate collective for autistic people (far from it!) and I'm no expert (again, far from it!).
Not least because how could I ever be an expert in your life, your lived experiences, your thoughts and feelings, hopes, dreams and needs and of your story?
Likewise, it'd be impossible for me to ever become an expert in the ever-changing, ever-growing field of neurodivergence.
So, no, this isn't a 'the' collective of neurostories but just a small corner of collected stories in the bigger world of Autismland.

I'm here to be a fellow human and relatable rather than an authority.
My Neurostory
It was 2018 and I was 35-years-old when I realised I'm autistic.
After doing a Bachelors in Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, I was still (horrifyingly) ignorant about what autism was. But when my first ever private practice client told me they were autistic, I instantly started studying it and I was so incredibly lucky that my first teacher came in the form of Dr Damian Milton (autistic researcher and psychologist) and I was very quickly consumed by one big 'aha' moment after another.
A few months later I was enrolled into a Masters programme, focussing on autism research and the rest is history...

I offer a range of one-to-one support: 1) Ongoing, ad hoc therapeutic coaching and mentoring 2) Post-Identification Support Sessions (for late-realised, high-masking autistic adults who've just had their autism confirmed by a professional) 3) Support sessions for family, friends or partners to neurodivergent adults £90/€100/850 DDK per 60 minute session My blog section covers what working with me might look like and you can book a free introduction chat using the link below.

Telling Others I'm Autistic (Disclosure)

You've realised later in life that you're autistic and you'd like to tell others... or do you? How would you even go about doing that? And why does the word 'disclosure' feel so heavy? And what if the people you tell end up having a disappointing reaction?

The Deficit Model - Part 2

I've already written one blog post about the deficit model - this is part 2 and how this model/way of thinking about autism permeates our understanding of autism, maintaining stereotypes but worse, cementing our internal ableism as autistic people.
